USCB approved for Provisional Year Two by NCAA

"Another historic day for USCB and Sand Shark Athletics," Director of Athletics, Quin Monahan said. "Today's terrific news is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our coaches and athletic administration, and certainly university wide support. We're thankful for the opportunity to continue our quest towards full NCAA Division II membership and look forward to phenomenal days ahead for the Sand Sharks!"

The 2023-24 academic year will be the Sand Shark's second year in the three-year provisional transition period. Provided, the Sand Sharks remain on track and continue to receive NCAA approval, USCB would become a full Division II and Peach Belt Conference member in 2025-26.

Last month, the Peach Belt announced that schools in the transition are now eligible for postseason play beginning this fall. Previously, schools making the transition were unable to complete for a conference title. The announcement immediately impacted USCB as it will be the first program to compete for a league title.

"This is a big change for us and for any school making the transition to Division II in the Peach Belt," said PBC commissioner David Brunk. "One of the major hurdles an athletic department faces when making the move to Division II is recruiting athletes when there is no championship to play towards. Now, all schools who make the move into the Peach Belt will immediately be able to compete in all of our championship events across the board."

Schools making the transition from one classification to another must follow a three-year provisional period, each carrying success thresholds. Prior to the PBC's announcement last month, school in the provisional process were not eligible for any type of postseason. While USCB will now be able to compete for a Peach Belt championship, should the Sand Sharks claim the tournament title that carries an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship, USCB will not be able to compete.

Currently, USCB sponsors 13 varsity sports. 11 of the Sand Sharks sports are sponsored by the Peach Belt; men's and women's indoor track and field compete as a standalone member.
